7-inch is the perfect size

A few inches more and I would have to use both hands.  A smaller size would hardly be a delight to my not so perfect eyesight.  7-inch then, for many people, is just the right size for a portable e-book device, even if Apple's CEO Steve Jobs thinks that "7-inch tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with the iPad".

New Year, New INC Ministers

Yesterday was a busy yet memorable day for me and Cerg and many other Iglesia ni Cristo members, especially those in congregations and locales that took part in the special worship service for the ordination of new church ministers.

Welcoming year 2011

Unlike in the Philippines where the new year is welcomed literally with a bang using paputok (firecrackers), torotot (toy trumpets), and almost anything that creates noise, new year is greeted silently and peacefully in Japan.  This striking difference is perhaps a reflection of the contrast between the cheerfulness of Filipinos and the silent nature of the Japanese people.

Green mangoes in Japan

As Filipinos living in Japan, one thing that we really miss from home is eating unripe mangoes.  The mangoes that are available in Japan are imported from other countries and most, if not all, are already ripe.  There's nothing really wrong with ripe mangoes but for many Filipinos nothing beats the taste of sour, crunchy, mouth-watering green mangoes.  So when Cerg happened to find some green mangoes in a nearby supermarket, she bought them all! (Only two mangoes were left so she took those two.)

Iglesia ni Cristo members join cleanup drive in Alameda, California

Volunteers from various organizations in the city of Alameda and nearby towns took part in the 26th-annual Coastal Cleanup Day held last Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010. Almost one-third of those who volunteered are members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) from the locales of Alameda, Fremont, and Hayward.

Kudos to the organizers and volunteers!

(UPDATE:) Video clip of clean-ups in the Philippines now included.

Charice, the Japan Edition Album

It's been a long time since we last bought a CD album.  With the availability of online music stores that sell by the song, we can select and buy only the songs that we really want, leaving out those that we don't.  But with the new album of Charice, there's nothing you would really want left out!
