Church Unity only in spiritual matters?

Whenever there is a coming election, I'm often asked about the reason for the unity of our Church even in things that do not seem to involve matters of faith such as the exercise of suffrage. My usual response is to point out that the early Church were in fact united not only in spiritual matters but also in matters that seem to concern only this world.

One example where unity or oneness in heart and mind was manifested in the early Church is in their sharing of possessions, as recorded in the fourth chapter of the book of Acts.

“Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need. ”

My response is not really a direct answer to the question but it is sufficient enough to have the questioner reconsider his question, which is what I actually want him to do. In most cases, I guess I get what I want for the questioner ceases to ask follow-up questions and falls into a moment of silence.

"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." - Paul, the Apostle
